Farah Al Amin is an Iraqi-Canadian architect, designer, and photographer. Labels aside, she flourishes in-between.

Farah has been practicing architecture and photography for over a decade in the Middle East and Canada. In Dubai, United Arab Emirates, she co-founded Tri Design Studio, leading the design of multiple civic and commercial projects, as well as public art installations commissioned by Dubai Culture and DIFC Arts Nights. Her work involved close collaboration with local artisans, incorporating traditional crafts within architectural projects, fostering concepts of sustainability - an extension of her research in the Master's program in Sustainability in the Built Environment.

She’s currently an associate at DIALOG, contributing to design excellence across diverse project typologies, with a portfolio that includes educational, civic, and healthcare projects.

Farah’s design training seeps into her photography work, where she designs scenes through the deliberate staging of objects and a careful choreography of color, light, and texture. She’s drawn to an experimental approach to photography that pushes the boundaries of the physical world into the ambiguous and the state of in-between.

Farah’s photography series Entangled was shortlisted for the Emerging Artist Award, an international contemporary art competition based in Dubai, and was featured in the competition's subsequent publication. Her ongoing project Decay has been showcased at the Sharjah Arts Foundation and was among the shortlisted entries for the Sheikha Manal Young Artist Award. The Decay series was also published in WATAD magazine and Sharjah Vantage Point publications in the UAE. In Toronto, the Decay series received an Ontario Arts Council (OAC) grant in 2021, was exhibited as part of a group show for the CONTACT Photography Festival in 2021, and most recently was displayed at Farah’s first solo exhibition at Arterial Gallery for CONTACT Photography Festival 2024. Her ongoing series Re-Archive was exhibited at Gallery 44 in 2021 as part of the group show When One is Far and Gone.
